Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that no other country is more interested in resolving the Ukrainian crisis than Russia, while speaking at the German-Russian Potsdam Meetings conference in Moscow on Tuesday.
Commenting on the crisis, Lavrov said "we need to restore the trust that was undermined during the Ukraine crisis, we all agree that the Minsk agreement needs to be implemented in full and as part of this Ukraine has committed to providing special status to Donbass and it should be part of the constitution, there needs to be an amnesty law and local elections and this is all about basic European standards, fundamental standards."
He added, "Russia is more interested than anyone else in resolving the conflict close to its borders. You often hear allegations that Russia wants to delay the resolution of the conflict by keeping it frozen forever, but these are attempts to shift the blame from a guilty side to an innocent side."
Lavrov also warned Europe against isolating Russia, stating that this had previously resulted in serious consequences. "History has shown that attempts to isolate Russia have led to serious consequences for the whole continent while engagement of Russia has led to long periods of stability," stated Russia's chief diplomat.
On the topic of Russian-German relations, Lavrov stated "we get signals from the German business community, from ordinary citizens and from civil society, these are positive signals and we welcome this positive attitude and we don’t provoke this attitude in any way, we just say we are ready to speak and work together, in an equitable and mutually beneficial way and there are still contacts developing between civil society, cultural figures, historians, MPs and Russian regions."
Focusing this year on the issue of stability in Europe, the Potsdam Meetings is a German-Russian conference created in 1999 that aims to bring together the most prominent representatives of political, public and business circles of the two countries.
