SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, (German): "As for the returned people from Turkey, they will be held in the federal government centre for terrorist and of course safety assessments will be carried out by our security services to ensure that these people are no danger for the country. That is the same procedure for those who live in the country, and will apply for these (new ones) too, if there is a danger to safety. And if [there is] then it will be dealt with by normal mechanisms."

Chancellor Angela Merkel said that members of Islamic State (IS; formerly IS/ISIL) deported from Turkey to Germany would be processed at a federal government anti-terror centre and have to undergo security checks. She made the announcement during a press conference with the Democratic Republic of Congo's President Felix Tshisekedi in Berlin on Friday
Merkel said the process - with regards to integration - was the same for those coming into the country as those who already live in Germany. Citizens who have suspected terrorist links are subject to state police and domestic intelligence agency surveillance.
If threats to national security are found, it "will be dealt with by normal mechanisms," she added. Normal mechanisms include building police cases, international arrest warrants and prison sentences seeking to de-radicalise IS members.
