Two police officers were charged Monday with second-degree murder in the killing of a mentally ill homeless man in the Albuquerque foothills last year.
The two officers accused of murdering 36-year-old James Boyd, were named as Dominique Perez and Keith Sandy. The officers shot the man to death on March 16th, 2014, after a several hour standoff when he refused to leave his campsite. NBC affiliate KOB reported that Bernalillo County District Attorney Kari Brandenburg, who filed murder charges against the men earlier this year, withdrew from the case after her office was disqualified over an appearance of a conflict of interest.
