Tear gas and water cannon was deployed as clashes over rising fuel prices continued between protesters and riot police in Tegucigalpa on Thursday.
Public transport workers, taxi drivers and university students rallied in the Honduras capital, condemning rising fuel prices and vehicle circulation fees.
All units of public transport – buses, taxis and mototaxis – were on strike on Thursday, after transport managers and representatives of the Honduras Institute of Land Transport (Instituto Hondureno del Transporte Terrestre/IHTT) failed to reach a deal on rising fuel prices.
The price of fuel in Honduras currently sits at around $3.74 (€3.21) per gallon.
