A new Russian-made virtual reality (VR) headset claims to have stolen the lead on competition as it made an appearance at the Military-Technical Forum ‘Army 2015’ in Kubinka on Thursday. Designed by the Russian company Avian, the latest model is reportedly more technologically developed than the famed American Oculus Rift VR headset which Facebook bought for two billion dollars (€ 1,800,000,000). The Russian-made technology was developed with the support of Moscow State University and has better screen and image quality than its US counterpart, according to the manufacturer. The latest virtual reality technology played a large role at the ‘Army 2015’ exhibition, with guests using VR machine guns, grenade-launcher, as well as planes and helicopter simulators. The expo at Patriot Park is organised by the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and runs from June 16 to 19. The forum is a platform for interaction between defence industries and military authorities to facilitate innovative research and development in military technologies and equipment.
