Germany: Hundreds join anti-refugee protest in Dresden

30.10.2015
At least 1,000 supporters of the eurosceptic Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD) party gathered in central Dresden, Thursday, to protest against Chancellor Merkel's refugee policies. High ranking AfD politician Alexander Gauland led the protest. The former lawyer and journalist condemned Merkel's policies saying the chancellor is causing "anarchy" in Germany and demanded the closure of the German border. "The politics of the chancellor mean a total loss of control by the state. She neither can guarantee interior nor the exterior safety of this country, which allows an uncontrolled influx of migrants, without knowing who they are. This is not appropriate acting by the state, it's anarchy," Gauland stated. He went on to describe the current migrant crisis as a "migration of the people," warning about the" consequences". Official figures suggest that 800,000 refugees and migrants will seek asylum in Germany in 2015. However, unofficial figures are talking figures of up to 1,5 million.
