Hundreds of people gathered for a vigil in front of the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT) in Mienenbuttel on Saturday night, amid the recent publication of shocking footage showing animal cruelty within its lab.
Holding banners and candles, they paid their respects to the animals used for scientific experiments in the laboratory.
Earlier in Hamburg on Saturday, more than 7,000 people marched to protest against the LPT for its animal testing.
The distressing footage that prompted the protests was reportedly obtained at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT) by an undercover activist working for the Soko Tierschutz and Cruelty Free International organisations.
It shows monkeys strapped in metal harnesses and kept in cramped containers, while cats and dogs are left in degrading conditions after alleged toxicity testing.
