Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered his “deepest condolences to those who have lost their friends and relatives” in the Kerch explosion, according to Press Secretary for Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov who was speaking in a phone interview to Russian journalists in Moscow on Wednesday.
“The president has ordered the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the emergency services to provide urgent assistance to those affected by the explosion and where necessary transport those seriously injured to the best health facilities in Russia, whether they’re in Moscow or other cities,” he said.
Peskov also said that Putin has ordered the cause of the explosion to be determined as a matter of urgency and that a terror attack had not been ruled out. According to the Russian National Anti-terrorist Committee, the blast was allegedly caused by an unidentified explosive device.
At least ten people were killed and 50 more injured after an explosion occurred in a polytechnic college in the Crimean city of Kerch on Wednesday.
Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi are currently holding talks in Sochi on the last day of Sisi’s visit to Russia.
