Nearly 10,000 Kurdish protesters filled the streets of Cologne on Saturday, to show their opposition against the Turkish military offensive in northern Syria and the death of civilians in the region.
Protesters were seen marching with banners and Kurdish flags, with many holding photographs of Kurdish fighters. Tension mounted when a Turkish flag was displayed from a balcony, but the protest remained largely peaceful.
The rally was held on the second day of Turkey's announced ceasefire, following Ankara's announcement on Thursday that the military action would be halted for five days to allow Kurdish forces to withdraw from the area.
The move came after an agreement between US Vice President Mike Pence and Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
