Clashes erupted between Israeli security forces and Palestinian youths in the city of al-Bireh, in the occupied territories of the West Bank right next to the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit-El, on Tuesday. Israeli soldiers and military vehicles deployed at al-Bireh fired at the Palestinians, injuring scores of protesters, while Palestinian activists armed with slings and many with their faces covered in keffiyehs, threw stones at the soldiers. Activists also built barricades using containers and tyres and set them on fire. At least 44 Palestinians and eight Israelis have died since October 1 in the latest round of violence in the region, which has witnessed the Occupied Palestinian Territories erupting over rising political tensions over the Al-Aqsa mosque, as well as the continued construction of illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land. On Monday night, Israeli sources confirmed the arrest of Hassan Youssef, one of the leaders of Hamas, in the West Bank, near the city of Ramallah.
