The 2015 Women's World Cup got off to a successful start for the U.S. with a 3-1 win over Australia to take three points and first place in the fearsome Group D — also known as the "Group of Death." The U.S. looked underwhelming to begin with getting outplayed in the first half by the Australians but two spectacular saves by Hope Solo bailed out a shaky defense. The second half was a different story, however. The U.S. seemed dominant, maintaining better possession and generally looking more like the fearsome squad that garnered so much hype over the past several months. Does this mean the U.S. team has put its malaise behind it? We wouldn't say that just yet, but the second half definitely provided some encouragement heading into a showdown with Sweden on Friday.
