Artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff known for wrapping famous landmarks in plastic of fabric, died at his home in New York on Sunday.
The 84 year-old Bulgarian artist died of natural causes according to a statement on his official Facebook page.
Christo collaborated together with his late wife Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon to wrap buildings and landmarks, such as the Reichstag in Berlin in 1995 and Pont-Neuf in Paris in 1985.
Archive footage shows Christo by his art installation 'The Floating Piers', a floating walkway in Lake Iseo, on June 2016. The artist set up over 220,000 floating polyethylene cubes, connecting an island in the lake with the mainland. On top of the cubes, Christo's team rolled out a yellow fabric, stretching around 100,000 square metres (1,076,391 square feet).
His unfinished project entitled 'L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped' will reportedly be completed and displayed in September 2021.
