SOT, Abdelfattah Mourou, Presidential candidate (Arabic): "Today, I am fulfilling a constitutional duty, a legal duty, a duty that, I feel as a Tunisian, builds my future and the future of my children. We do not want to avoid the democratic path but to preserve it. And preserving it comes with making the people decide, and track the progress of their choice, and to hold the chosen one accountable for his actions. This is only one step of the many that come with being a citizen, to come to the polls and vote and accept whatever the result is. This is a great step, which should not be separated from other steps: which is to follow the public affairs, and to have an opinion about them. This is the role of the parties and the civil society which should closely follow the work of political leaders, their actions and hold them accountable for it and keep them worried and if necessary punish them. Therefore, I am happy to live this moment, the moment when Tunisia elevates to the level of democratic nations. We are now like the countries that achieved this two hundred years ago, like the United States, France and Britain. It's true that our path needs to be strengthened. It is true that small changes are still lacking, but we are on the right path. The people are the decision makers and I believe that the acceptance of people's decision is at the heart of democracy."
