Germany: FM spokesperson 'resolutely condemns' North Korea nuclear test

Government spokesperson Steffen Seibert said Germany condemned North Korea’s recent nuclear weapons test and urged them to follow the relevant resolution by the UNSC at a federal press conference in Berlin on Friday.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Martin Schaefer confirmed that Pyongyang’s ambassador to Germany would be summoned in connection with the most recent test. “It is common for the North Korean ambassador to give answers that correspond with the line of his state and regime, denying the claims. I assume that this will be the case today too. Everything else would not be easy for him I assume,” Schaefer added that an effort by the UNSC and China was now needed to prevent such incidents in the future.
The statements follow Pyongyang's announcement that a ‘high-level’ nuclear weapon was tested successfully, the second successful test in eight months.
The UNSC has adopted five major resolutions since 2006 sanctioning North Korea for continuing to develop its nuclear weapons program and calling on Pyongyang to dismantle its nuclear program and abandon ballistic missile tests. The first two resolutions were passed shortly after North Korean nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009. The third followed one month after North Korea successfully launched a satellite in December 2012 and the fourth after a nuclear test in February 2013. The most recent was adopted in March 2016.
