Obama's Ties to New Nonprofit Rekindle Transparency Questions

President Barack Obama traveled to New York on Monday to preside over the launch of a new charity bearing the name of one of his signature initiatives and, in so doing, rekindled questions about the transparency of nonprofit groups closely tied to politicians.
The kickoff for the My Brother's Keeper Alliance also came amid intense coverage of the Clinton Foundation, whose fundraising and disclosure practices have come under scrutiny in connection with Hillary Clinton's newly announced presidential bid.
While Obama spoke for a half hour Monday at the alliance unveiling and attended a related roundtable discussion, the White House punted on questions about any limits on donations to the new group, as well as how those gifts will be disclosed, if at all.
