Lithuania: NATO troops hold joint Baltic Piranha drills
22
27.10.2016
Joint NATO military exercises took place at the Pabrade military ground on Thursday as part of the month-long Baltic Piranha
2016 drills.
Some 350 soldiers from Luxembourg, Belgium, and the USA took part in the exercises alongside Lithuania's armed forces in a bid to strengthen joint capabilities. The Grand Duke Kestutis Mechanized Infantry Battalion, the 5th Territorial Unit
of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Forces, and the United States' 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, were among the groups participating.
The soldiers will hold drills both inside and outdoors, using more than 100 pieces of the military equipment. The drills come as NATO continue to reaffirm "plans to enhance our presence in the Eastern part of the alliance," according to the body's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, in a purported response to a perceived "Russian threat".
