Around 2,000 people rallied outside the State Library in Melbourne, Sunday, to demand the closure of refugee detention centres after allegations surfaced of refugees being abused. During the rally protesters held placards in support of refugees and condemning the Australian government's approach to ongoing refugee and migrant crisis. The rally was organised by the group 'Refugee Action Collective.' Protesters were demanding the closure of detention centres on the islands of Nauru and Manus. According to immigration figures from the Australian government, there are currently 1,589 asylum seekers being held on Manus - 1,382 men, 114 women and 93 children.
