Hundreds of pro-Kurdish demonstrators marched in north London, Sunday, to denounce he arrests of eleven pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) politicians in Turkey.
During the march, a car driven by supporters of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attempted to ram the demonstrators, and as self-defence the protesters counter-attacked the vehicle, which then fled the scene.
One of the protesters, activist Bertan Gunes, commented that Erdogan and his government are now "scaling the war on its politicians, activists, journalists, academics, teachers, everything," before adding that the UK and other NATO countries "should be taking much more action."
On Friday, eleven MPs, including the HDP party co-leaders Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, were detained for not bearing testimony following alleged terror connections. The move has drawn condemnation from Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as other international leaders.
