Thousands of supporters of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff marched in solidarity through Buenos Aires, Wednesday, as the Brazilian Senate readies to vote on her impeachment proceedings.
The protesters marched through the capital with Brazilian flags, decrying what they consider as a coup against Rousseff. The group later marched on the Brazilian embassy, calling for the Brazilian Upper House to drop impeachment proceedings.
If a majority of 81 senators vote to proceed with the impeachment trial, Rousseff will be suspended from office for up to 180 days while the charges against her are investigated. Vice President Michel Temer will then take office, while Rousseff awaits trial. If Rousseff is convicted, Temer will serve as president until the end of 2018.
