German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier gave a joint press conference with his Finnish counterpart Timo Soini in Berlin, Wednesday. Discussing the ongoing conflict in Syria, Steinmeier said that Russia, the United States, Iran and Saudi Arabia all needed to sit around the negotiating table for a political solution to be found to the conflict. "We need the USA and Russia, we need also partners like Saudi Arabia and Iran, despite the deep contradictions between them. We need them all to sit down at the negotiating table and to find ways to diffuse the Syrian conflict and push forward the political solution," Steinmeier stated. The German foreign minister went on to praise the Finnish government for taking in refugees under the European Union's refugee redistribution plan and for their contributions to Frontex. "We thank Finland for the decision to resettle refugees within the framework of the EU refugee distribution plan as well as for the Finnish willingness to contribute to the strengthening of Frontex," he said, adding that "this is an example of the European solidarity.
