Speaking at Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Thursday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump vowed to protect the rights of LGBTQ citizens, promised to 'turn bad trade agreements into great trade agreements', to improve America's job market, and cited the need to expand law enforcement forces for the safety of U.S citizens.
Crowds of supporters cheered on Trump as he appealed to the LBGTQ community, " I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology", he said. It is the first time that a GOP nominee has addressed the LBGTQ community at a convention. However the Republican Party continues to oppose same-sex marriage.
Trump also slammed Hillary Clinton for supporting an "enactment of disastrous trade deals", which he claims have greatly impacted America's manufacturing economy. ""America has lost nearly one third of its manufacturing jobs since 1997," he said.
On Tuesday, Trump was officially named the Republican Party's candidate for November's US presidential elections. A roll call vote at the RNC revealed that Trump had the majority of delegates- 1,237, needed to contest the November 8 presidential election against the nominee of the Democrat party.
