Thousands of protesters from the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA) marched through the streets of Johannesburg, Wednesday, decrying alleged government corruption and job losses in the mining industry. General Secretary of the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa official, Irvin Jim, gave a statement condemning corruption in the mining industry, as well as slamming job cuts. Former Secretary General of Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Zwelinzima Vavi also joined the parade, hitting out at poverty in South Africa. A similar march was held on September 30, but NUMSA members did not take part in the protest because of an order issued by the National Economic Development and Labour Council.
