are bringing their own draft bills to the state parliaments, for example in Dresden, Stuttgart and Erfurt, about a ban on wearing a burqa and niqab. We would like our counterparts to stay recognisable in daily life and that does not work with a burqa or niqab."
Co-party leader Frauke Petry participated in an Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD) rally in the town of Wismar, Saturday, one week before the state parliamentary election takes place.
Around 100 people gathered to listen to speeches by local politicians but were mainly attracted by Petry's attendance. Many swarmed the AfD co-leader at the end of the rally for photos and autographs.
Some 20 counter-protesters were kept at a distance by police but tried to disrupt the rally with whistles and chanting.
Police reported no incidents and said that the event had remained peaceful on both sides.
