Russian President Vladimir Putin presented five highly coveted golden 'Hero of Labour' awards at a state ceremony in Moscow's Kremlin on Saturday.
Among those awarded were People's Artist of the USSR, Iosif Kobzon, and Pavel Kamnev, head of the Novator bureau which specialises in producing long-range anti-aircraft missiles.
The 'Hero of Labour' is awarded to five Russian citizens for "outstanding results in public and social activities and for making a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, including the development of production, science, culture, education and sports." The award is considered the second-highest honourary title in the country, behind the title of 'Hero of the Russian Federation.'
The Soviet Union started awarding the official honorary title of 'Hero of Socialist Labour' in 1938.
