Armenia: Two gunmen rushed to hospital after night of gunbattles

The ongoing police station siege in Yerevan, Armenia continued on Wednesday, despite two gunmen surrendering. After an overnight exchange of fire with police, Pavel Manukyan and his son Aram, both members of the Sasna Tsrer armed opposition group, were wounded and rushed to hospital.
Along with a policeman who was also hit, the two men were taken to hospital in police custody. The police are guarding the hospital where the two men are being treated. Negotiations on the surrender of the group are currently underway.
The group are demanding that President Serzh Sargsyan resign and calling for the release of alleged political prisoners, including Jirair Sefilyan, who was detained on June 20 after authorities allegedly uncovered a plan to seize control of telecommunication facilities and other buildings in Yerevan.
The building of the Regiment of Armenian Patrol-Guard Service in the district of Yerebuni in Yerevan, was captured on July 17. Some sources have reported that a number of high-ranking officers were captured and held hostage at the same time, including local police chief, Valery Osipyan.
