Germany: FDP's Lindner discusses German coalition talks in Cologne

Free Democratic Party (FDP) leader Christian Lindner gave his thoughts on the German government coalition talks at the annual convention of the Association of Public Employees in Cologne on Monday.
"People have got the impression that, regardless of who you vote for, you get the status quo with Merkel, only the partners and the colours change. Then that contributes to party disillusionment," said Lindner.
Commenting on a possible new coalition, he stated, "if this government comes about, then it'd have more inner stability than the alternatives we've discussed here. And for the SPD, it's not too big a step - they're already sitting on the government benches."
In November, the FDP pulled out of the so-called 'Jamaica' coalition talks, with Lindner claiming there was no "basis of trust" between German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Greens.
