UK: Police 'violently' evict Sweets Way Estate occupiers amid resistance

Squatters who were occupying Sweets Way Estate in Whetstone, north London, have been evicted by police officers on Wednesday, but some of them still remain in the premises with a roof-top occupation ongoing. Reports indicate that clashes occurred as arrests were being made. Mostafa Aliverdipour - a disabled man - his wife and four children, among other residents of the estate, were being forced out after authorities failed to relocate them to another property. Around 100 activists are currently confronting the bailiffs, which arrived at the scene earlier on Wednesday. Squatters occupied the facilities despite the determination of the company that owns the buildings, Annington Homes, to demolish and rebuild the estate. The current residents moved into the empty housing estate five months ago after the original tenants were evicted so their homes could be sold off to developers. The squatters who currently occupy the homes reportedly would not consider themselves homeless, but see their decision to live in the area as more of a lifestyle choice. They have re-named the residential area 'Sweets Way Estate.'
