Malaysia: Thousands demand PM Najib Razak’s resignation in Kuala Lumpur

Thousands of yellow shirted anti-government protesters gathered in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, demanding Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's resignation.
Fears of clashes mounted, as pro-government supporters dressed in red shirts staged a simultaneous counter-protest. A heavy police presence was organised, keeping the two groups apart.
Najib has been accused of misappropriating billions of dollars through his foundation 1MDB. He has denied any wrongdoing but protesters are determined the Prime Minister should face charges. They were undeterred by a police ban and numerous arrests carried out the previous day, when the head of Bersih, the reformist group which organised the protest, was taken in by the police along with several others, and the protest was declared illegal.
