18.09.2016
Alternative for Germany (AFD) Party members celebrated in Berlin on Sunday after preliminary results from the day's elections showed they had won over 12 percent of the vote. The result means the EU sceptic, anti-immigration party will gain a seat at Berlin’s regional assembly.
Among those present at the celebrations were AFD chair Jorg Methuen and AFD candidate for Berlin Georg Pazderski, as well as AFD vice chair Beatrix von Storch. Pazderski called the result “fantastic.” While Meuthen looked forwards to the Bundestag elections saying “we will bring this country, our homeland on a good road again”.
The results mean the AFD is now represented in ten out of sixteen German state assemblies. This will be the first seat they have held in the German capital’s regional assembly since the country’s reunification in 1990.
