D.J. MacLennan, a futurist author from Skye, held the “Dying to Know” conference, an event that encourages people to think about the practicalities of the final phase of their life, at the Glen Urquhart High School in Drumnadrochit on Saturday.
MacLennan has arranged to have his head preserved at an ultra-low temperature as part of the cryonics procedure, with the intent to be restored to life if and when technology becomes advanced enough. Following his death, his head will be transported to a facility in the Arizona desert.
Advances in cryonic science could have an impact on organ transplant scenarios. With the advance in preservation techniques it could be possible to store organs in good enough condition for a transplant operation, its proponents say.
