Reporter (in English): "Do you think that force was justified?"
SOT Birttnew Benck, daughter of Robert Finicum (in English): "No, it's not."
Hundreds of people crowded into a Mormon church in the small town of Kanab in Utah for the funeral of Robert 'LaVoy' Finicum, Friday. One of the prominent occupiers at Oregon's Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Finicum was shot dead by police in January 26.
"I'm mourning his loss, my grandkids mourn his loss, I know that he was where he needed to be," Finicum's daughter said.
On January 28 the FBI released footage of the moment that Finicum was shot on January 26 on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. On the footage Finicum's truck was stopped by the FBI. Federal agents then proceeded to order Finicum to exit the vehicle. The truck then drove off, before reaching a FBI roadblock, here Finicum's vehicle veered to the left, crashing into a snowbank. Finicum proceeded to leave the vehicle where he was surrounded by agents. He then, according to a FBI spokesperson, reached for his pocket, as he did this agents fatally shot Finicum. The spokesperson said a loaded handgun was found on Finicum's person.
The armed protest group, which Finicum was spokesperson for, who refer to themselves as 'Citizens for Constitutional Freedom,' seized the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters, located around 50 miles (80 kilometres) from Burns on January 2, after two of its members were scheduled to go to prison for setting fire to federal government land.
