President Vladimir Putin praised the fact that 97 percent of 2015 defence procurement contracts were completed but stressed that he wants answers for those contracts that were not completed. Putin made the comments while addressing the country’s top military officers and officials, including Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, in Sochi on Thursday.
“Some contracts have experienced delays and in some cases have not even been carried out as planned,” the president said. Putin went on to say that “we must analyse the causes of the disruptions and problems and propose measures to make sure that similar situations do not arise again."
However, Putin also hailed those “enterprises of the defence industry complex" that "generally met their obligations with due diligence." He said that “most armaments and hardware were delivered on time” and “so state defence procurement for 2015 was 97 percent complete." Overall “the results from 2015 show that troops received about 4,000 items of military hardware” which meant that “the general proportion of modern equipment used by the armed forces is 47.2 percent."
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin among others with more meetings set to follow until Friday.
