French President Emmanuel Macron promised to raise the minimum wage and give tax concessions in a national address in Paris on Monday, following weeks of 'Yellow Vest' protests and civil unrest.
Macron said that they had "mixed legitimate claims with a chain of inadmissible violence."
He announced a rise in the minimum wage by €100 (US $114) per month as of 2019, as well as cancelling a planned tax on pensions under €2,000 ($2,271) a month.
The President also declared that overtime hours would no longer be taxed, and that employers would be asked to pay end-of-year bonuses to employees which would also be tax-free.
"I would like to say that my only concern is you, my only fight is for you, our only fight is for France," he said.
