Far-right politician and leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV) Geert Wilders was confronted by anti-racist protesters at a press conference in Perth on Wednesday. Chanting "say it loud, say it clear, racists are not welcome here," the protesters attempted to drown out Wilders as he announced the launch of the newly formed anti-Islam Australian Liberty Alliance (ALA). Wilders was a guest of honour at the ALA launch, which was held in a secret location in Perth, Tuesday night, following concerns for Wilders' safety. However, the event location was leaked with protesters crashing the press conference and shouting over ALA party candidates Bernard Gaynor, Kiralee Smith and Debbie Robinson. The ALA has registered with the Australian Electoral Commission and intends to put forward candidates in the federal election, due to take place next year. The ALA is inspired by Wilders' Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), which runs on an anti-Islamic platform. Wilders' party is leading in 13 out of 16 of the last opinion polls, a success the ALA wishes to emulate.
