Jeremie’s residents surveyed the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew on Friday, after the storm ripped through the island. The death toll across Haiti has risen to 400, according to officials, with 30,000 homes destroyed in the island’s Sud province alone.
Local resident, Medelin Dorvil, lamented the devastation, stating “We don’t have food, or a hospital to get a healthcare. I urge you to go visit communal hospital, because we need medicines and doctors and other aid."
The states of Florida and South Carolina as well as parts of North Carolina and Georgia in the United States, have also declared a state of emergency, with millions of coastal residents warned to be ready for evacuation, as Hurricane Matthew is expected to make landfall in the coming hours.
