BP's Billion Dollar Settlement

BP and five Gulf states announced a record $18.7 billion record settlement Thursday that resolves years of legal fighting.
The settlement, if accepted by a federal judge, shall end years of litigation between BP and the U.S. government accessing violations of the Clean Water Act.
According to an outline filed in federal court, the settlement is also expected to resolve the natural resource damage claims and economic claims involving; Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
A judge previously ruled the company exhibited gross negligence managing the Deepwater Horizon platform that exploded in April 2010.
The damaged oil rig gushed nearly 134 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
