Montenegro: Anti-government protesters clash with police in Podgorica
1
19.10.2015
Thousands of people took the streets of Podgorica on Sunday, clashing with police in front of the Montenegrin Assembly. Protesters threw stones, flares and various other objects at the police as they tried to bypass a police cordon and descend on the national assembly. However, the police managed to push the protesters back by firing tear gas. Sunday's events come after anti-government protesters staged 20 days of protest on one of Podgorica's main streets, with police breaking up the demo on Saturday. The protesters are calling for the resignation of the government and early elections. Organisers have promised to return to the streets next Saturday if Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic fails to form an interim government and acquiesce to the movement's demands.
