Protesters torched their ballot papers on bonfires in the municipality of Tixtla Guerrero, Sunday, forcing local authorities to call off mid-term election polling in the town. The demonstrators aimed to show their opposition to President Enrique Pena Nieto's handling of the alleged killing of 43 student teachers earlier this year. Protesters blocked polling stations throughout the southern states of Oaxaca and Guerrero, burning their ballot papers in townships throughout the two regions. So far no clashes have been recorded in the Tixtla area but the Interior Ministry has deployed state security and military forces in order to maintain order.
