Police detained and arrested 17 members, ten women and seven men, of the Turkish Socialist Democracy Party (SDP) outside the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) in Ankara, Friday. The protesters were rallying against the ongoing G20 summit. Riot and plain clothes officers were deployed in a bid to disperse the protest but when the SDP members refused, they intervened and forcibly broke it up and made arrests. One police officer was reportedly injured after hitting his head on a vehicle door while trying to place a protester inside. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Turkish G20 has been praised by International Chamber of Commerce Secretary-General John Danilovich who said that "Turkey has risen to the G20 challenge with creativity and real application," in a statement to the press.
