SOT, Syed Abid Hussein, Mourner (Urdu): "You can see across the world there is no value for humanity, in countries like Shaam [modern-day Syria and Lebanon], Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain, and Kashmir people are getting oppressed, the reason is there is no value for mankind and for humanity. Thosands of muslims commemorated the annual observance of Arbaeen in the Bemina area, in the outskirts of the capital of Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, on Sunday.
Footage shows worshippers gathering in large numbers to chant prayers before taking part in a procession towards a mosque. Some waved Iranian flags and held anti-government banners.
Arbaeen is observed 40 days after Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad's grandson and the third Shiite Imam, Hussein ibn Ali, in the Battle of Karbala in the seventh century.
The Arbaeen pilgrimage, which takes place in the Iraqi city of Karbala, is the largest annual religious gathering in the world.
