Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov confirmed that 32 "terrorist targets" had been hit in the latest round of Russian airstrikes in Syria during a briefing to reporters in Moscow, Thursday. "Thirty-three sorties have been carried out against 32 terrorist targets in Idlib, Hama, Damascus, Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor Governorates from Hmeymim Air Base," he stated. Konashenkov attributed a drop in the "intensity" of Russian airstrikes to gains made on the ground by Syrian Army against the Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL) and other militant organisations in the country. "The terrorists are retreating and trying to equip new launch areas and changing their logistics concerning ammunition, weapons, and means of material supply," he explained. The Defence Ministry spokesman added that Russia and the US are working to an agreement "on safety precautions for flights over Syria". "We are marking the points of contact of our respective positions on key issues with regards to any future deal," he said. "We have agreed on a procedure for further action by both sides."
