U.S. President Barack Obama accused Russia of "strengthening ISIL" during a press conference at the White House in Washington DC, Friday. Obama said that Russian policies in Syria are driving who he claims are Syrian moderate opposition "underground" or "creating a situation in which they are decapacitated", which is "only strengthening ISIL". He went on by saying that they don't want to make Syria "into a proxy war between the United States and Russia". The president also acknowledged that "the training and equip program" developed by the U.S Defense Department to support the so-called Syrian moderate opposition "has not worked the way it was supposed to". He went on to recall the US military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq, and expressed that he "would have hoped" that US "would have learnt" from those experiences when approaching the conflict in Syria, that he branded as a "hugely difficult complex problem".
