USA: Hundreds picket Chicago police HQ on anniversary of Laquan McDonald shooting

21.10.2016
Several hundred protesters rallied outside the Chicago police headquarters, Thursday, on the second anniversary of the police shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
Protesters were also gathered to demand the passing of House Bill 6616, a measure that would provide a mechanism to recall certain elected officials who are accused of covering up crimes. Protest organiser, William Calloway, addressed the crowd, urging their support for the bill.
Chicago has witnessed sustained protests since the 2014 shooting of McDonald, which left a Chicago officer facing a murder charge after more than a year-long delay in releasing dashboard camera footage. The rapidity of the release of the O'Neal footage is as a result of wider reforms to Chicago police procedures, following accusations of racial discrimination and police misconduct.
