German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi at his official residence Schloss Bellevue in Berlin on Monday ahead of the 'Compact with Africa' G20 summit.
Upon Sisi's arrival, Steinmeier and the Egyptian President shook hands for the media, before going inside, where the Egyptian leader signed the visitors' book.
The two presidents held a short talk behind closed doors, before the arrival of other leaders to the 'Compact with Africa' summit. The initiative was launched under Germany's G20 presidency in 2017 to promote more co-operation and foreign direct investments into Africa. To date Egypt, Ethiopia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia are among the 12 participating countries.
