Serbia: PM Vucic condemns Hungary's anti-migrant wall proposal

Serbia respects the rights of undocumented migrants more than some EU countries do, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in Belgrade on Friday, while addressing Hungary's decision to build a fence along the Serbian border. During the presser, Vucic said he would talk to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and try to convince him not to build the barrier between the two countries. Orban announced earlier this week that Hungary would close its border with Serbia and construct a fence in order to prevent migrants crossing into the EU. Since the beginning of this year, over 50,000 undocumented migrants have crossed the border into Hungary, most of them having started their journey in Syria. On Thursday, Macedonia, which is also seeing an influx of migrants on its territory, changed its asylum law to allow undocumented migrants to avoid jail time if they leave the country within three days. Serbia and Macedonia - both EU candidate countries - are among the main transit routes for migrants trying to enter the EU from North Africa and the Middle East.
