Apple Wants to Protect Your Privacy, Says Tim Cook in Stirring Speech

03.06.2015
Apple CEO Tim Cook just made it crystal clear where he stands on data privacy and encryption.
In a strongly-worded speech delivered to the Washington, D.C.-based Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), Cook called out other Silicon Valley companies — ostensibly Facebook and Google, though they were not mentioned by name — for their information-gathering habits.
Cook said "I’m speaking to you from Silicon Valley where some of the most prominent and successful companies have built their businesses by lulling their customers into complacency about their personal information." Cook, who spoke to the EPIC audience remotely, also had strong words for government agencies and law enforcement officials seeking to weaken encryption or leave "backdoor" access for the "good guys".
