Russia: Over 100 evacuated from stranded ship in Sakha river

Over 100 people were evacuated by Russia’s Emergencies Ministry in Sakha Republic after a ship ran aground in the middle of the River Lena on its way to Yakutsk.
Several Mi-8 helicopters were used tp evacuate 98 passengers and 11 crew members who were on board the ship, the Stepan Arzhakov, when it ran aground some eight kilometres (5 miles) from the village of Batamai.
The vessel was on route from the village of Zhigansk to the capital of Russia’s Sakha Republic , the city of Yakutsk, carrying 109 passengers, including 10 children.
Some of those evacuated were taken directly to Yakutsk by helicopters. Others were taken to the village of Bulus and later taken to Yakutsk by buses.
