The freshly appointed new UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader, Diane James, spoke to press after the party conference in Bournemouth on Friday.
When asked about filling previous party leader Nigel Farage’s shoes, James replied: “I will be seeking his opinions, I'm going to be honest about that, why wouldn't I? The legacy he's bequeath to this party, the experience, the knowledge he's got - I would be absolutely nuts to ignore that. But I'm not going to be looking to him being a back-seat driver. I will consult his as I see fit, but I will be making my own decisions."
The new UKIP leader added she intended to raise her profile by assuring that UKIP was capable of being a “winning machine”, echoing her earlier statement that the party was “the opposition party in waiting.”
Farage announced in July 2016 that he would resign from his position following the 2016 UK Brexit referendum.
