A rally of the far-right Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident (Pegida) was met with a larger number of counter-protester in Duisburg on Sunday.
Clashes erupted as some counter-protesters were seen trying to break police lines. Footage also shows several people being apprehended by the police.
According to the numbers from the Duisburg police, the Pegida rally attracted 270 participants, while the counter-protesters' were around 1,100.
Reports indicate that the police used pepper spray against some counter-protesters, and filed criminal charges against 22 participants.
