A Russian IndyCar Series racing car set a new speed record on Wednesday while travelling across the frozen Lovozero lake in the arctic Murmansk Region. The speeding racer set an unprecedented record of 225.98 kilometres per hour / (140.5 mph).
In the frozen conditions of the Russian far north a team of specialists planned and prepared the icy track for several months, while mechanics adapted the racing car to the harsh Arctic climate.
"It was not easy but we did it. We set this record for the first time in history. So our trip here was not in vain," said IndyCar driver Mikhail Aleshin.
